2022 Essay Writing Contest

As a community outreach project, Voice for Life undertook an Essay Writing Contest

Reasoning for Contest - May is a time that ushers in springtime which provides us with the opportunity to celebrate new life. As we are in the Easter season, it also gives us time to hope. It is fitting that we celebrate new life in our schools and churches.

Simcoe and District Voice for Life wants to celebrate their love for all human life. The month of May is all about celebrating mothers. Mothers are important as they give us life. To celebrate, we are running a contest for elementary school-aged children centred around Simcoe and District Voice for Life’s own picture of a mother and child.

The Voice for Life Essay Writing Contest 2022 closed on May 31, 2022.

Cash prize winners for best entry categories:

Grades 1-3: $250 - Gillian Gaston, Port Dover

Grades 4-6: $250 - Sammy Rixmann, Simcoe

Grades 7-8: $500 - Eden Fast, Nanticoke

We were truly blessed with the Sponsorship of Edward Kiernan, President, that covered the cost of all the awarded cash prizes.

Basic Rules:

The contest was open to children living in Haldimand and Norfolk counties and enrolled in Grades 1-8.

One prize was awarded to the top essay in each of these categories:

Grades 1 - 3, Grades 4 - 6, and Grades 7 - 8.

Interested entrants had to follow these instructions according to their present Grade level:

Grades 1 - 3: Name the picture, give it a title and tell why you chose that name or title. Print or type your words on one page. This must be your own work. Minimum - 50 words.

Grades 4 – 6: Write a story up to 350 words about who is in the picture, how the picture makes you feel and how it relates to you and your family.

Grades 7 – 8: Write an essay of 500 – 700 words on how the picture makes you feel and how it relates to you and your family. Give it a title.

Stories must be original. A completed entry form is required for every essay entered in the Contest. All entries must include the signature/authorization of a parent or guardian.
